Sometimes we have to get creative around here when it comes to fun things to do to keep my kids entertained. I like to think of new things to do all the time with my kids that all of us can enjoy. Below you will find some ideas that you can do with your kids that they will really enjoy during weekends or anytime.
Barnes & Noble-
Barnes & Noble is one of my favorite places to take my kids for a couple hours or to kill some time. I take my kids here at least two or three times a month. My kids really enjoy the book fairs they have at school so I love taking them here and letting them discover all the interesting books that Barnes and Noble has to offer. Most Barnes and Noble locations have a cafe so we like to grab a snack and then head over to the kids section. At both of the Barnes and Noble locations in our town, they have a little stage where kids can sit and read. All of the books are sectioned off into age groups and genres which makes it easy to find a good book for every one of your kids. Barnes and Noble even has a kids club where they offer discounts, loyalty rewards, and even free cupcakes from the cafe on your childs birthday. This is a great way to spend a couple hours and introduce your child to appreciate reading.
Park Picnics-
When the weather starts to get warmer, going to the park for a picnic lunch is the best. It’s free, easy, and allows your kids to get some fresh air and spend some time outside. The park we like to go to has a huge splash pad in the summer, a new playground, tennis courts, and more. Even if you don’t have kids, this is a cute date idea that doesn’t require much planning. Check out this cute picnic basket set from Amazon listed below! It has all the essentials of what you may need.
Art Classes-
If your child is creative, they may love taking an art class! Many times, art classes are offered with just one class or you can sign up for weekly ones. Many of the classes start at ages five and up and offer drawing and painting, pottery, jewelry making, and more. Many art studios near us also offer art summer camps for kids, so if you have a little artist, this may be a fun option for them! If you are looking for something to do at home, check out these cute art sets from Amazon.
Tea Party-
Having a tea party is the perfect way to spend a rainy day. My oldest daughter loves to dress up in all of her beautiful dresses and get all her stuffed animals ready for the party. I enjoy taking my kids to the store and letting them pick out a few tea options for the party as well as fancy little cookies and crackers. This little set from Melissa and Doug is adorable and food safe, so you can have fun and be safe.
Science Activities-
If you don’t mind cleaning up a mess, this may be a fun activity for your kids. Sometimes we will have science activities that allows our kids to be as creative and messy as they want. Some of my favorite experiments we have made is a volcano, digging up gemstones, and using different household products to “test” everyday items lying around our home. If you are looking for some cool science kits, here are the ones we love.
Outdoor Track and Field Day-
This one may require some planning and a backyard, but is a great way for your kids to spend time outside and run off some energy. Some activities you can do is a relay race, hula hoop race, water balloon toss, tug of war, limbo, potato sack race, and more. The more kids that play, the better! This is even a great idea for a birthday party. Here are some of the items I purchased for our field days.
